I love Fall, all the major sports are going on and when covering a team not involved any longer, the questions start to shift from what is to what could be. After 101 losses, could be is a lot more comforting than is to say the least.
Watching playoff baseball reminds you just how far the Bucs were from being where they need to be. Oh, don’t get me wrong, the record was enough, and I know what good baseball looks like, but one thing that really struck me this year so far is just the offensive depth and the continuation of bullpenning. Let’s dig in on some thoughts and see where we go.
I hope none of you thought we were going to take some long break now that the season is over, we’re just getting started. This is where things really start getting interesting.
There’s something in a season like this that irritates people that stick with the team through the whole death march more than the fact that the team is bad. It’s the devolution that really makes it impossible to stomach.
Hey, it’s too little too late, and yes, yesterday’s double painful loss in what would have clinched the team’s first sweep of the season is very fresh, but this team has been playing good baseball. They’re doing it with what I propose is their very worst bullpen of the season and easily their worst rotation, at least on paper.
Good afternoon and Happy Labor Day everyone.
Baseball is such a unique sport. You can literally do nothing all game long and suddenly with one swing of the bat score 3 runs. I say this because as Pirates fans, you almost forget how quickly runs can come in this game.
Five Thoughts at Five is designed to keep us talking and thinking, Your comments are what it’s all about. Keep em coming.
Things haven’t been going well. To be blunt, everyone should have expected a weak performance down the stretch, but it’s all worth it if they come out of the rest of this season with answers.
Thank goodness this isn’t called Five Positive Pirates Thoughts at Five.
