I’m making no supposition as to whether Mr. Wright the knuckleballer the Pirates just signed to a minor league deal actually helps the team or not this season, not yet.
So what right? What’s another outfielder who hasn’t cracked MLB? Looks like the Pirates are dumpster diving again!
Sure, sure, they could still sign a guy. There are still options out there, but let’s be honest, even if they get one of them, it’s going to be a vet who at best slots in to the back of the rotation and eats some innings.
For sixteen teams the point of this 60 game season has just become apparent. A chance to win a championship, for some a rare opportunity, for others an annoying extended battle more difficult than their yearly coronation tends to be.
Both of these players will be back. Period. Now, why do I say that with such authority? Because the Pirates simply can not afford to let either of these gentlemen walk for nothing.
